Guidelines for Patient Referral

Any patient requiring large doses of beta-agonists, chronic or frequent 'bursts' of oral steroids, hospitalization, or greater than or equal to two emergency department visits/year is a candidate for referral. Other candidates for referral are patients for whom the diagnosis of asthma or the cause of chronic cough (greater than or equal to six weeks) is in question.
